Ahasiw Maskegon-Iskwew

Ahasiw Maskegon-Iskwew is Métis from northern Alberta. He is editor of the ConunDrum Online Aboriginal Arts Magazine that premiered in July 2005 produced by Urban Shaman Contemporary Aboriginal Art Gallery. He has exhibited internationally and his writing has been published in Fuse, MIX and the anthologies "The Multiple and Mutable Subject, and Caught in the Act. New articles will be appearing in the anthologies Transmission, Technology and Tradition, INDIANacts and Tiré à part/Off Printing. In May 2005 Maskegon-Iskwew was awarded a two year Aboriginal curatorial residency grant by the Canada Council for the Arts to take up the position of New Media Curator at Urban Shaman Gallery to pursue the theme Storm Spirits: The Cultural Ecology of Aboriginal New Media Art. Steven Loft - Curator, Language of Intercession

Steven Loft is a Mohawk of the Six Nations. He is a curator, writer and media artist. Currently the Director of Urban Shaman Gallery in Winnipeg, he was First Nations Curator in Residence at the Art Gallery of Hamilton where he curated Language of Intercession and The Very Soul of Me: Modern Artists Exploring the Spiritual and Unity of Nations: Contemporary First Nations Art. He has also co-curated alt.shift.control: musings on digital identity and Machyderm: What is Wassailing…?.

He has directed several video productions including Survival of the Fittest, Out of the Darkness, and Tax This. His most recent production, 2510037901, is an experimental auto-documentary that examines issues of oppression, quantification and control. His videos have been screened at festivals across Canada. He has written articles, essays and reviews on First Nations art and aesthetics for various magazines, catalogues, and arts publications.
